# Split: free Splitwise alternative with no daily expense limit

Split is a free Splitwise alternative for trips, homes and dinners. Make a group, share the link, and add expenses as they happen. Split shows who owes whom and the fewest payments that settle everything. No daily limit, no ads, no sign-up and nothing to install.

## How it works

1. **Make a group.** Name it and add who is in it. It takes ten seconds and no account.
2. **Share the link.** Anyone with the link can see the group and add what they paid, from any phone or laptop.
3. **Settle up.** Split keeps everyone's balance and shows the fewest payments that make everyone even. Record each payment when it happens.

## Everything you use Splitwise for

- **Three ways to split:** equally between some or all, by shares or percentages, or by exact amounts. Every split adds up to the cent.
- **Who owes whom:** each person's balance, what they paid and their share. Pick your name and Split shows what you owe.
- **Fewest payments to settle:** Split simplifies debts for everyone, free. Record each payment when the money moves, or share the list in your group chat.
- **Live for everyone:** new expenses show up for everyone with the link as soon as they are added, on any device.
- **Search and export:** find any expense by name, person or amount, and download the whole group as a CSV file.

## What Split does not do

- Convert currencies inside a group. Each group uses one currency.
- Scan receipts. Your AI assistant can read a receipt and add it for you through the API.
- Repeat an expense on a schedule, or send email reminders. "Share who owes whom" puts the summary in your group chat instead.
- Record two payers for one expense. Add it as two expenses.
- Move money. Record payments after they happen, in cash or any payment app.

## For AI assistants

Split has a public API with no key and no account. An assistant can create a group, add, edit and delete expenses, record payments, manage people and report who owes whom. A group's id is its secret, the same as its link, so treat it like one.

**Is there a free alternative to Splitwise?**
Yes. Split is free with no daily expense limit, no ads and no sign-up. Make a group, share the link, and everyone can add expenses from any browser.

**Is Split really free?**
Yes. There is no paid plan, no ads and no limit on groups or expenses. Each expense costs a tiny amount to store, and OpenApps pays for it.

**Does everyone need an account?**
No. Anyone with the group link can see the group and add expenses on any device, without signing up. Each person picks their name once, and Split shows what they owe.

**How do I find my groups again?**
The home page lists the groups you opened in this browser. On another device, open the group link: keep it in your group chat or bookmark it.

**How does settling up work?**
Split works out the fewest payments that bring every balance to zero. When someone pays, record it and the balances update for everyone. Split never moves money itself.

**Who can see my group?**
Only people with its link. Group links are long and random, so they cannot be guessed. Anyone you share the link with can add, edit and delete expenses.

**Can my AI assistant use Split?**
Yes. Split has a public HTTP API with no key. An assistant can create a group, add and edit expenses, record payments and report who owes whom.
